Challenge
The power of a success story
Jojo is a Filipino truck driver working in the Netherlands. For years, he worked under inhumane conditions: unpaid wages, exhausting hours with no rest, and no hope of justice — and he hadn’t seen his family in seven years. His story, sadly, is not unique.
But thanks to Jojo’s persistence — and the dedication of VNB, the Dutch collective labour agreement watchdog for the transport sector — things took a turn.
Together, they fought a legal battle. And won. Jojo finally received what he was owed: €22,000 in back pay.

Approach
Making injustice visible
We brought Jojo’s story to life in a powerful seven-minute video. With testimonies from the investigators who worked on his case.
With new footage of Jojo himself. And with a narrative that connects his personal struggle to the structural injustice in the sector.
VNB didn’t just want to close the case — they wanted this victory to be seen.
Result
A lasting victory
Today, Jojo’s video makes VNB’s impact tangible: legal work and collective agreements aren’t about bureaucracy — they’re about real people.
The video makes a complex story accessible, gained wide viewership, and is now circulating in online trucker communities across Europe. In doing so, VNB is encouraging other drivers to speak up and report abuse.
And Jojo? He still feels “like a millionaire” — and he’s finally able to visit his family again.
